Cases of Nipah virus infection, for which there is no opposing vaccine or effective treatment, have been identified near the city of Kolkata in the state of West Bengal.
According to "The Economic Times," among those infected are a doctor, a nurse, and a medical institution employee.
It was reported that two nurses fell ill while working at a private hospital after the New Year. The condition of one of them is serious — the patient has fallen into a coma.
Experts emphasize that the Nipah virus is transmitted from animals to humans and that there is no specific medicine against it.
It was noted that the recovery of patients largely depends on the state of their immune system. Indian officials have intensified epidemiological surveillance.
