According to Chancellor Friedrich Mersning, who gave an interview to DW at the G20 summit, Berlin first saw Donald Trump's 28-point "peace plan" last Friday. Mers said that Trump himself had spoken with him about the plan that day.
He emphasized Germany's full support for Ukraine's sovereignty and stated that an assessment is ongoing to determine which parts of the plan could be accepted equally by Europe, the US, Ukraine, and Russia. In his opinion, agreeing on all 28 points by November 27 is imperative.
Mers also sharply criticized the point in the plan about transferring half of the benefits from Russian assets directed at Ukraine to the US. "It is impossible to pay the frozen Russian assets in Brussels to the Americans," he says.
