Trump: Ukraine's security guarantee cannot be provided through NATO

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is proposing security guarantees for Ukraine, but this initiative could be implemented separately, outside the NATO framework.

Politico reports that during a video conference with European leaders and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump expressed the U.S.'s readiness to play a certain role in providing Kyiv with means to deter aggression if a peace agreement is reached with Russia.

However, Trump emphasized that any such commitment would only be considered outside of NATO.

Trump ruled out the possibility of the U.S. directly sending military forces or weapons to Ukrainian territory. Nevertheless, arms deliveries to Kyiv via Europe could continue.

While European and Ukrainian officials have assessed this initiative as a positive step, they are awaiting the results of the Alaska summit between Trump and Putin with concern.
