Former US President Donald Trump stated that the 50% tariffs imposed by the US on India for purchasing oil from Russia have dealt a severe blow to the Russian economy.

During a press briefing at the White House on Monday, Trump noted that India is one of Russia's largest or second-largest oil buyers and emphasized that this measure has put significant economic pressure on Russia.

According to him, as part of the US trade pressure campaign against Russia, India was initially subjected to a 25% tariff, which was later increased by another 25%, bringing the total to 50%.

This decision was made based on an executive order signed by Trump titled "Threats from the Government of the Russian Federation to the United States" and came into effect on August 7.

Trump also stressed that these tariffs are causing serious damage to Russia's position in the global economy, describing them as a "major blow."
