The United Kingdom is preparing to officially recognize the independence of the State of Palestine. This was announced in an official statement by the country's Prime Minister Keir Starmer on July 29.
According to his words, London will make this decision if the Israeli government:
— Does not take serious measures to stop the ongoing horrific situation in Gaza,
— Fails to reach an agreement on stopping the fire,
— Does not demonstrate commitment to a stable peace process based on the two-state principle,
— Does not clearly state its position against the annexation of lands in the West Bank of the Jordan River.
This information was provided on the official website of the British government.
At the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Berlin currently does not consider recognizing the State of Palestine as "the right step." In his opinion, the most urgent issue now is stopping the fire in Gaza and releasing the hostages, including German citizens.
On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans for the full annexation of the Gaza sector. This was reported by the newspaper "Haaretz." According to the publication, Israel has given Hamas a deadline of several days, and if the movement does not agree to stop the fire, it will begin gradually transferring Palestinian territories under its control.
