Starting from September 1 of this year, fines may also be imposed in Russia for searching for extremist materials on the internet. The State Duma approved a draft law considering this.

"This law can be applied to anyone. The wording is not precise enough," says Mikhail Klimaryov, head of the "Internet Protection Society."

His advice is clear: "Avoid Yandex and VKontakte. These services are not safe."

The "Network Freedoms" group, however, recommends deleting search history on Google and YouTube, as well as switching to privacy-focused browsers and systems like DuckDuckGo or MetaGer.

According to the law, fines of 3,000–5,000 rubles may be imposed for searching for banned content.

It can be said that the law has even displeased Ekaterina Mizulina, who is active on this issue—she responded by saying, "We will lose the ability to monitor content."
