Yesterday, July 8th, from noon, the airport of Marseille — France's second largest city — was temporarily closed due to the risk of fire.
Flights are being redirected to other nearby airports. Except for some buildings in the surrounding areas, a mass evacuation is not being conducted — instead, citizens are advised to remain at home and cover ventilation holes with damp cloth.
According to the fire service, more than 350 hectares of forest near Marseille have fallen victim to the fire.
Over 170 firefighters, more than 60 vehicles, and 2 helicopters have been deployed to extinguish the fire. Movement on several sections of the railway and highway has been temporarily halted.
